Year 5 and 6 Sportshall Athletics

220 students from eleven schools across St Albans and Harpenden came together on 26th February for the Partnership round of the Aviva Sportshall Athletics held at Gosling Sports Park.

The eleven schools that had won their cluster level competition enabled them to come to the Partnership round.  Teams were made up of ten boys and ten girls with each competitor limited to two track and two field events. Teams battled their way through 6 track events and 6 field events in total which included an obstacle relay, over & under relay, six lap paarlauf, speed bounce, chest push and javelin.

From the Harpenden SSP Crabtree boys and girls teams emerged triumphant whilst from the St Albans SSP it was a victory for Garden Fields girls team and Wheatfields boys team.  Crabtree, Garden Fields and Wheatfields then qualified for the County Final competition.  This took place on 30th March at Wodson Park and involved teams from all 12 School Sports Partnerships across the county The competition to win the title of County Champions was fierce, however Greneway school took the title but close behind were Crabtree coming an impressive second and Wheatfields & Garden Fields did brilliantly and come third.

Thank you to Dan Klinger and Tanya Angus for helping me organise this event and to the SSCo's, St Albans Athletics Club, the Sports Development Team and teachers from each of the primary schools for all their help.
