Leadership

The Year 10 students on the Sports Leaders Level One course have been preparing tournaments to be run in their core PE lessons in the summer term.  They have also been helping with a variety of events being held at Loreto, including the Year 5 and 6 Sportshall Athletics, Year one Games Evening, Year 2 Cross Country Half Mile and the Year 6 Cross Country Mile.

TOP LINK

Eze Okemadu, Katie Murphy and Eimear Keegan attended the TOP Link Convention at Hertfordshire University in order to improve their leadership skills.  They listened to inspirational leaders and took part in a number of challenges in their various groups.  Next term they will be utilising their skills to help in the PE Department with all the summer activities.

Badminton Club

We have been running a badminton club for Year 10 and 11 students.  This has been run by Ellie Baker and Aideen Lamar who attended a Leadership conference and training session earlier in the year. Basketball and Table Tennis will follow next term.

Year 5 and 6 Sportshall Athletics - Cluster event at Loreto

St. Peter's and St. Albans and St. Stephens both fielded strong teams for this event.  The participants all tried incredibly hard and had a wonderful experience taking part in all the different events.  Finally, St. Albans and St. Stephens did triumph to compete at the partnership final the following week.

Year 1 Games Evening at Loreto

This was the second time running this event with sixteen students from each school taking part in a number of relay races.  They were asked to do a variety of different activities including using the indoor ladders, jumping over hurdles, going through tunnels and using the huge gym balls as targets! There was some confusion on occasion but all the pupils enjoyed the experience.

Year 2 Cross Country Half mile at Loreto

This event was incredibly successful this year with lots of participants and supporters.  The weather was perfect for cross country running and the students who took part had a wonderful experience.  Katie Holder from Maple School was the winner of the girls' race with Amelie Newman-Booth from St. Peter's coming a close second followed by Milly Mason, also from St. Peter's.

Thomas Platts from Maple School was the overall winner of the boys' race followed by Evan Howage from Maple and Ollie Seeby from St. Peter's School.

Overall the teams from St. Peter's came first followed by Maple and in third place were the teams from St. Albans and St. Stephens Junior School.

Year 6 Cross Country Mile at Loreto

This event was organised for the following week and again the weather proved perfect for cross country running. The students from Maple and St. Albans and St. Stephens Junior School made good use of the opportunity to complete the established Loreto Mile course.

Susie Williams from Maple finished in first place in the girls' race followed by Chloe Nichol and Charlie Dowsell also from Maple.

The top three boys in descending order were Kyle Harris followed by Billy Laurence and Robert Errington, all from St. Albans and St. Stephens Junior School.

Overall, the teams from St. Albans and St. Stephens won with the teams from Maple coming a close second.

Well done to all those students who took part and thank you to all those parents and teacher who supported the event.  Thank you also must go to the three 'Hares' who helped to set the pace at these events: Hannah Hull (Year 10), Isobel Taylor (Year 9) and Laura Edwards (Year 7).
