GIFTED & TALENTED SUMMER SCHOOL 2008

28TH JULY - 1ST AUGUST

The 3rd Hertford and Ware School Sports Partnership Summer School for Gifted and Talented youngsters, was held in the last week of July, run by Debbie Evans, Annie Thomas, Sandy Edwards and a number of external coaches. The week followed the theme 'Beijing and Beyond' and was based at Sele School, but also used facilities at Wodson Park Sports Centre, Ware; Fairlands Valley, Stevenage; and St Edmunds School.

Thirty six selected year 6 and 7 pupils from our Partnership schools were able to try their hand at a wide variety of sports including: basketball, handball, swimming, climbing, kayaking, raft building, tennis, extreme golf, badminton, archery, indoor rowing, ultimate frisbee, yoga, karate, hockey, gym and street dance - yes, all in just one week! They were especially lucky to receive expert coaching in Boccia from Paralympian, Peter Pearse; in Badminton from Olympian, Natalie Munt; and in Handball from potential Olympian, Laura O'Mahony.

Despite being completely exhausted each evening after such a hectic schedule, the youngsters thoroughly enjoyed themselves - especially the chance to try out new sports - and managed to put on an excellent display for their parents and invited guests at the end of the week.
