MultiSports Festival

Sir John Lawes Sports leaders organised a very active and enjoyable MultiSport festival for 120 primary students from Crabtree infants and Manland Primary school. The children took part in a carousel of activities including target shooting, obstacle courses, games, dance and others. This was part of the leaders' assessment and for some their first experience organising younger students. They found it challenging, learnt a lot and had great fun. Well done and thank you to all involved.

Big Lottery

Two Big Lottery projects have taken place at Sir John Lawes this term.  A lunchtime Speed Stacking and Table Tennis club for Year 7, delivered by school staff and after school girls' basketball, delivered by Apex.

Basketball

Following a teacher training course in the autumn term, both Grove and Crabtree Infants introduced mini-basketball to their schools. The School Sports Partnership provided basketball equipment, resources and additional support for class teachers with the SSCo delivering lessons for a half or full term. The Year 2 students responded very enthusiastically to the lessons, showing good skill progression and understanding. We look forward to them enjoying more games in the future.

Gym and Dance Festival

Approximately 180 Primary School students from Manland, Grove Infants, High Beeches and the Crabtree Schools put on a wonderful display of their dance, gymnastics and cheerleading talents. The audience were treated to Greased Lightening dances from Year 6 Crabtree students, a funky Abba tribute from Manland Year 3 and a superbly timed cheerleading display. Year 1 from Grove Infants performed their lovely Toys and Rainbow dances confidently and Crabtree Infants Year 2 shared their Three Little Pigs Dance, which included some very scary big bad wolves. Both High Beeches Gym Club and Crabtree Year 4 demonstrated creativity and high quality of movement in their gymnastic performances. The event was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience of over two hundred. All students taking part should feel very proud of their achievements.

Gymnastics Inset

The SSCo has provided in-class support with Reception and Year 4 classes this term at High Beeches. This is part of the Sports Partnership's work with schools to develop high quality PE and is one form of teacher INSET provided.

Virtual MultiSports Year 3 and 4

All thirteen Year 3 and 4 classes within the SJL family have taken part in the virtual MultiSports competitions this terms. Students have been very enthusiastic working really hard to beat their personal best performances. Outstanding scores are as follows:129 skips a minute: Kate from Manland

13.9 sec agility run: Jack from Manland5 strides 9.80m: Perry from High Beeches

Sportshall Athletics

Manland were runners up in this year's cluster event, with Crabtree winning overall. It was a very well contended competition with all four schools (Crabtree, Manland, High Beeches and The Grove) entering enthusiastic teams and showing excellent sporting conduct.

Crabtree went on to win the Partnership Championship and to represent the District in the County Finals at Woodson Park. The girls' team won their event, the boys were runners-up and the team were overall runners up. Hearty congratulations to all involved.
